Porcelain Crowns
Porcelain crowns are the restoration of choice when teeth are badly broken down or have old large fillings that need replacement. Porcelain crowns will strengthen the tooth and restore the form, function and esthetics so they mimic nature.The porcelain crowns do not have the grey or black line on the margin since there is no dark metal in the crown. These crowns will not stain or change color and a great ceramic artist can make this mimic nature perfectly.
Although the porcelain crowns are very strong, there are times when we need the strength of gold underneath the porcelain to prevent breakage. If someone grinds their teeth at night we may want to restore the back teeth with porcelain fixed to gold crowns since they can withstand more abuse without breaking. Dr. Bloom also uses porcelain fused to gold under long span bridges for the extra strength.
